Afropunk.com can be considered a form of Black social media...

I can't stand black people who start talking about something is too hard when other ethnic groups already do it. Those are the people who need to be left behind.

All of these social media companies started up with a few techies, built up a user base and then got seed money. WhatsApp had about 40 people when FaceBook bought it for 22 billion dollars. Don't tell me something is too hard. Ask yourself how do 40 people build up a multibillion dollar valuation, and not every one in WhatsApp is an executive or engineer. So you might be looking at 30 people running that company. Black people have energy and money for damn near everything else except for the projects that make us independent.

I tell every black who will listen that unless you are doing something really out there like something for NASA or the US military, you have access to as much technology as the richest 1% of the people out there. I got more Internet bandwidth to my house than my entire state did back in the 80s. That is how much technology can change the lives of black people.

I agree with Tariq on the need for holding our own media companies so we can talk without begging for permission. Oprah's OWN is 50% owned by Discovery Networks and Discovery controls OWN's distribution. Oprah can't do jack without Discovery's permission. Johnson Publishing is owned partially by JP Morgan. BET was sold a long time ago. Etc. Etc. Etc. Black people begging to be on white fashion magazine covers but we have cameras that capture HD. You can host your own network on Amazon or Microsoft's CDNs. It is wide open for the strong right now.

I am glad he took only one call. That show maintained its momentum.

Interesting show. Like tariq said, we have to enventually get our own media outlets to control our own content without facing white supremacy restrictions. Even though i am not on any of these sites,i.e. facebook, instagram, twitter, etc.,those of us that are have to stop depending on these primarily white owned media entities to voice our opinions on the real shit that is going on. As far as that delightful, insightful dialouge from that insecure,"mean spirited" peckerwood former law enforcement "tough as nails" gringo from the lone star state, at least he kept it real. Shit was funny as he was ranting about black "thugs" causing so much havoc and mayhem amongst the "good common folk" down in texas, especially the "coppers". The fucked up thing is though, this same redneck, blustering, ranting piece of white supremacist filth, used to incite violence against us back in the days and has the capability to do so now. Like tariq said and i have been saying for quite some time: black, african, melanoid people had better wake the fuck up and realize that idiots like him are around us every damn day. They are not our friends or allies. For the few that come off as being "good ,friendly caucasians",there are ,in my opinion, many more who despise us with the greatest contempt, hostility and hate. I know it hurts most black people, african ,melanoid people to deal with this, but the truth hurts. Handle it.

That point about how white people will go to the source of the music is true. I am into African(real African) music and most of the people at the events I attend are white women. And I mean the whitest white women. The ones who do yoga and shop at farmer's markets.
Of course you get a lot of black people too. But the white people will look at you like "wtf are you doing here?"

Louis Armstrong had a great quote on how even the most racist white man will have some black musician who he worships to the point of weirdness. I look up old R&B tunes on YouTube and most of the arguments in the comment sections are by white people. White people will obsess over Muddy Waters and Sun Ra but no black people really give a damn about David Bowie or the Who. Black people are the source but we need to learn how to maintain it.

If you take a look at how much music black people made and how almost none of it is owned by black people it is a shame. Motown's catalog was bought out for $400 million dollars. Black people could have pooled money together and bought Motown. It is a straight tragedy.

Lol,

Is it the chicks with the dirty dread(ful) locks and sleeves of tattoos?

Y'know, that's funny. I was reading a humorous article about "stuff white people like" and "Black music that black people don't listen to" was one of the top ones.

These people are Kings & Queens of cultural appropriation and scavenging! White folks are LITERALLY OBSESSED with black people and I am NOT exaggerating in the slightest.

If they loved black people even a FRACTION of how much they loved our culture... man.

Homie it was not even like that. These were some of the whitest white women who ever whited. Until they heard that jungle bass and that congo rhythm. Then they would wind those hips enough to challenge the sisters. It was stranger than a mother to observe.

Truth be told, white women know that original sound is what gets them moving, not Toby from Kansas and his country music.

White people are thirsty for black culture. I went to an African music show during the summer in an area with a lot of blacks. Damn it if the largest demographic wasn't white women. A few white men were there but the social climate being what it was, white men knew they aren't too welcome.

White people have never had any issues learning as much as they can about a black art so they can resell to the white middle class.

Good show. My thoughts...
9/2/2015 02:20:31 pm

Like you pointed it out, white supremacy has decided to take off the gloves. Black people might not realize this, but the media today is just like it was during the days of early black and white television: Black's cooing to keep their jobs. The media making black people look like savages. Nothing is new under the sun. As far as the white shooting victims are concerned. First of all, majority of the cops that were killed this year that got media coverage, were done by white suspects. Yet, not once did you see the fake outrage that happened, when a genuinely mentally disabled black man killed a cop. And that black gay male reporter that might have killed those two white people - I say might, because I also believe it might have been another staged Hoax - was being harassed on his job and the manager's own reports prove this. He tried to leave, but the station would call where he was relocating and blacklist him. He was pushed to the edge if it did happen. And one last thing, white people need to learn how to forgive and stop getting so sensitive. The dignified human being forgives and doesn't "let hate win". It's the Christian thing to do, and America is suppose to be a Christian Nation. It's not, but you get my sarcasm.

Excellent show as usual. It's getting vicious out here in Texas. Over the past year the racism against melanated people has gotten to the point where we are seeing a "black flight" from Eastern to Western/West-Central-Texas out of areas like McKinney, Frisco and Jasper. This is due in part to cases such as the following:
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2014/02/11/1276596/-Black-Man-in-Jasper-Texas-Found-With-Cut-Throat-And-Missing-Ear-Ruled-Accidental-Overdose#. They are slowly being pushed out to areas like San Angelo, TX, a town that was designed to be a retirement community for the elderly dominant society and now there is tension out here as the flight has swollen the black population of a city that was never expecting it. City response? Increase the size of the police force. I truly believe we need to localize and develop our own areas with our own industries and maintain our own security and document that development in the international media; show the world that the conflict here is no different than what the Israelis are doing to the Palestinians, because the racial tension in this country is clearly coming to a head.

Per your statement of "a town that was designed to be a retirement community for the elderly dominant society "..
WHAT????
To begin with, San Angelo was a frontier Calvary fort (Which housed the buffalo soldiers among others).
It was located where it is due to the Concho river and its central location...
Fort Concho was constructed about 1867.
The Black population has always been about 5% of the total population (as it is now) the rest is , 39% Hispanic and 54% White.
Per your statement of " Increase the size of the police force"...
Due to the increase of the population caused by the Oil "boom" the police force was increased.
a higher population brings the need for more civil servants.
When you get your info from a communist newspaper (the daily Koz) ...
Well...
I simply feel sorry for you.

I'm a member of a black-owned, fully functional social network website:
http://www.http://hourtimenow.com/

I've already sent Tariq an email with the link to the website and the name of the owner. I'm figuring that they can collaborate towards creating a social network.

Anyone claiming that it's hard simply has trouble imaging the details necessary to create one. The bottom line is that the fact that MySpace and then Facebook were created means that it can be done. All they are is a structure for hosting the content the users create, no more, no less.

I know this is not a political forum but I have to take this opportunity to advise any black person planning to vote for Hillary Clinton in the primaries or general elections, PLEASE DO YOUR HOMEWORK and do not vote against your best interests! And I doubt seriously if Sanders will be the nominee.

This has been a public service announcement! LOL!! Seriously, do your home work.

Black people should have learned a lesson from Obama's two terms. Votes don't mean jack. Black people turned out in historic numbers and got run ragged by white supremacists anyway. I definitely don't blame Obama for that because after he is gone, who will we complain about?

What matters is lobbying money. Gays, Latinos and damn near everyone else got something out of Obama because they put up money over everything else. Vote as an exercise but until we get some money together it really means absolutely nothing.

Sanders is ok but he really is just one man. The US Government is a many headed beast. You either tame it or feed it.

@Hors

But for those who insist on voting b/c "black people fought and died for the right to vote," Hillary Clinton is not the one and Sanders is a one trick pony (the economy and middle class income, which means little for those with no income, at all). Hillary endorses the same war on drugs as her husband, stop and frisk and civil asset forfeiture, ALL BAD FOR BLACK PEOPLE!

This is where I respectfully disagree BoomerGal. In the last couple of midterm elections, I voted for a 3rd party or write-in for each office, Congressional and state-wide. Until black people can start putting together money to BUY and SELL these politicians, we are stuck in this false dichotomy. We should be voting everything BUT democratic and republican until then.

As it concern strictly black people(not people of color and all that other bs), there is ABSOLUTELY NO difference between democratic and republican. Hillary Clinton herself said that Bill Clinton's policies were largely responsible for putting a large number of black men in jail. In return for certain concessions, Bill Clinton signed legislation that disproportionately punished black people.

The last governor of Maryland, the democrat spouted, that All Lives Matter nonsense a few weeks back. He had to walk that back.

De Blasio, a democrat, hired and supported Bratton who is 100% ok with Stop-And-Frisk and Broken Windows. Again, I ask, how exactly are the democrats any better than the republicans? I see them as neighboring plantations.

One beats you. The other screws you and then beats you.

I agree. As Prof Griff from Public Enemy reminds us all the time, they are two wings of the same bird. But there are still those who maintain that we should exercise this right b/c of the hard fought battles of civil rights and my message is mainly for them; that if you're going to vote in the primaries and general, do a write in candidate or just vote for congress people on the left. Although, congress is 6 in one hand and 1/2 dozen in the other, we still have a better chance with the devil we know than the one's on the right who will continue to steam roll back the little rights we have left.

Just a quick clarification of what that sister said.

The idiot didn't set up his account so that you have to "pay to message him".

If someone is not your friend, their message goes to the "other" folder. So you can hope they happen to see it (since it doesn't alert them) or you can pay $1 to send it to their regular mailbox.

When are we going to start doing things for US? I have been losing friends left and right to violence since high school and Im 35. Its feels like the norm. Here in L.A. you got our own going at your neck, the cops, mexican gangs, etc. But niggas want to march, complain and beg. Its really fustrating to the point where you wanna say its anybody killa. We good at talkin the talk but not many walkin the walk. Is there a group bold enough to take control of our communities? Are these new militant groups too scared to takeover the communties and restore. I believe if our neighborhoods were protected from gangs and cops we can actually get shit accomplished.

Sorry to hear about your friends, but I don't particularly like the "what about black on black violence" argument.

The two are not mutually exclusive... expressing outrage over one does not mean apathy over the other.

The thing is this: While there is "black on black" violence (and I hate the term). There is still a system in place to somewhat deter that... It's called Prison.

As it stands, there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING preventing police from killing us... Nothing.

Maybe if a cop is camera shy and doesn't want his face plastered around America before getting acquitted he won't kill an unarmed black man, but other than that... There are absolutely NO consequences.

Yeah, I think the point people keep missing in the statement "what about black on black crime" is that black people get arrested and go to jail whenever there is even probable cause. They will make up and plant evidence to put a black in prison. The prisons are engorged with black bodies so the statement "what about black on black crime" is straight from the plantation. It means that there are not enough blacks in jail.

So while people who have lost loved ones to gang violence, have my sympathy, I do not cosign this belief which is only applied to black people in America by the way, that we have to have 0% crime in our communities in order for any of us to have justice. We get punished as a group.

Freddie Gray should be treated as a separate case. But white supremacists and their black bootlickers, say that it is essentially okay to kill Freddie Gray because some black in Chicago go shot and killed by another black. I never hear white people apply that plantation logic to themselves. White people demand to be treated as individuals. Elliott Rodgers and Dylan Roof do not even come up in the same breath by white people. So how the eff am I responsible for crime I did not commit?

If you really believe in that what about black on black crime logic, then you should never be able to complain to anyone about anything ever. Because until you clean up your own community, then you cant expect anyone to help you right? I mean, that is your logic right?

I am not taking cheap shots but this is survival we are talking about.
If you call the fire department, they should ask you if you are black, tell you to solve black on black crime, and then HANG UP on you.

If you call for an ambulance, they should say, what about black on black crime, and then HANG UP on you.

That would be consistent with the belief we need to have 0% crime in our own communities in order to expect any fair treatment from others.

@ Hors Sfier and Mr. Jon. My statement wasnt exclusively pointing out "black on black crime" and I didnt elude to that. My statement was in regards to murders against us in the communities we live in. Here in L.A there are very few black neighborhoods if any. Most are saturated by latinos and when there is a gang issue with a black gang for instance, they go after anyone black. I know how the police get down with planting of evidence, arrest on suspicion etc. I went through all that. My comment about US killing each other was merely inclusive to the other issues going on out here. I have been to jails in California and the latinos out number us like 5 to 1 and I want to say thats a modest ratio. When we are sent to a jail dorm out here no more than 15-20 blacks are allowed per dorm of about 40-60 non blacks. They call that having it racialIy balanced which I was once told by a deputy and when shit goes down its mandatory everyone come together against the blacks and when the police come through in a riot who do you think they beat up first? The point I was trying to make was about taking control of our own communities or least protecting our own. I dont know about other states/cities outside L.A but this is what a black man has to deal with out here. My uncle used to tell me how the Panthers protected our communties out here and Im just wondering why we cant get back to that.

I appreciate that background info. Much respect.

I've read a few reports out about how Latino gangs are pressuring black families period to move out of their neighborhoods. Reading about it is different from living it of course but that is a call to black people and a lesson to us. While the black gangs fought amongst themselves, the Latinos were building up strength. And this is true in legal and illegal activities.

Again, I don't know when we will learn to unite long enough against clear adversaries. But we will be picked off and eliminated if we don't. And it is happening right now.

Wait,

I thought blacks were like 90 something % of inmates.

In any case, Latinos need to stop the bullshit, because they seem to be the next group on the chopping block for white supremacy right now.

Not to mention they were sittin' around drinking Tequilas while watching the Civil Rights fighter in the 60's who fought so that THEIR asses could have freedom too!

I'm sure the FBI has the numbers. The number I've heard consistently is 40%, as in blacks make up 40% of the overall prison population. We make up a weak 13% of the general population.

As for Latinos, nah homie, the white supremacists are nowhere near done with us. They haven't even gotten to the bone yet, much less used up all of the meat.

The illegal immigrants are in dire straits, oh well, but Latino citizens seem to be doing okay.

The thing is, white supremacists are harder on blacks because we have the most justification for striking back without mercy. And they know it. There is a lot of blood that needs to be atoned for.
