Agreed. I can share that in the 1990s I worked in pre dominantly black film and television industry due to a very close friend of mine being a casting director with ties to Def Pictures and Def Comedy Jam. During this period I experienced racism for the first time in my life and I am white. I didn't think much of it at the time though I am reminded of it by some of the outrageous comments here

GOOD INTERVIEW. This is what it sounds like when coherent black people speak to each other without a white filter in the middle. She is free to have her own opinions. She was respectful throughout, polite and with a sense of humor, even if she misses the point. The bigger picture is beyond her. She kept bringing up that dressing and speaking well will somehow protect black people from the overarching system. I know plenty of middle class blacks who are educated and speak well but they get hassled by white folk because they are isolated and in a weakened posture.

Tariq bringing that Sally Helmings/Thomas Jefferson comparison was 100% on point. Her white husband has a bunch of kids by black women. That is so funny. Her relationship informs her ideology. She means well but never asks the question of how did Baltimore end up so deteriorated.

Black people who are successful individually miss the point that only success as a group matters. One man is easy to execute but a group is harder to stop. I used to think being the lone black in a room was an accomplishment but then realized it was a tragedy.

I don't see the white man as holding us down as a big monolithic entity. It is more so like death by a thousand cuts. You can die from being mortally wounded or you can get sliced multiple times and bleed out faster than your body can clot the wounds.For some blacks. they get the death blow early, for others they bleed out slowly. Black people can organize and come together but first we must recognize we are under attack. When I was in corporate America, I would notice that the blacks got a lot harsher treatment than whites. One Friday, a white man came in for an interview. The white manhad wounds from a bar fight the night before. I kid you not. The wounds were visible. Guess what? He got hired. His stories about his weekends were insane: fights, attempted robberies, shady deals in parking lots. But not one white manager called him out on his extracurricular thugging. By contrast, a black dude raised his voice just once and they had him out the door quick.

This woman misses the point. When she has kids with that white man, and those kids are more brown than beige, she will understand.

Yeah man. It is heavy. I worked at a company that was as liberal as it came...until it came time to promote a black. So you got a nominal foot in the door at a top firm, but there was no promotion and no way to accumulate a group of likeminded blacks into a power center. If you did manage to "move up", you ran into fewer blacks and got further isolated. So the more talented you were by white standards the less likely you were to transfer your talents to other blacks, just because there weren't any to share game with.

It is sinister how a generation of blacks "allowed" into corporate America really have nothing to show for it at a group level. We are at least 1 maybe even 2 generations behind the Asians. Due to white supremacy of course. And before someone starts whining, deflecting and attention whoring(and you know who you are), it is pretty well understood why Asians do well. They have a second language and a culture that the white man can not touch. They can talk game and strategy in their OWN language and the white man can't find out. Etc.

I respect what the previous black generation did in terms of taking care of the children but man did it screw up by telling those same children that getting a diploma from a white school and then spending 40 years working for a white man was a measure of success. We should have been taught to aggregate money and power. Loving each other would be nice but it is not necessary to be all lovey dovey in order to build a power base for protection and projection.

I am proudly one of those black women that Tariq talked about that don't like black men with white women. Why wouldn't I have a problem with it as a black woman? He has a problem with black women with white men but we're wrong when take issue with black men taking up with white women. If you love yourself, you would have a problem with it. But, It doesn't run my life because I recognize these men are self-loathing Negroes so I don't lose sleep over them. At one point, she even uses flattery to get him off her ass - and unfortunately, it worked.

Agreed 100%. Let's say, for the sake of argument that hoeing and interracial marriage are equally bad when either genders(black male or black female) do it. I got relatives married to white people and I look at them a bit skeptically now. I find them too submissive to their white in-laws. But whatever...it is not my life.

The problem that a lot of black women have, which is based on the lie that white feminists sold them, is that there should be no differences in repercussions between men and women for the same actions. That is not true. Hoeing tends to degrade women faster, both physically and mentally. Not 100% of course. As long as he can avoid diseases and pregnancies, male hoes tend to be alright and get their heads clear eventually.
Again not making a moral judgment, let's just say these experiences warp women faster. Show me a man who's banged 100 women and he might look like he just came from Gold's Gym. Show me a woman who's banged 100 men and she might look like she did a 100 Man Gang Bang Slam 10 minutes ago, Ron Jeremy style. But I digress.
I can look at a woman these days and tell what type of men she has dated. That is how much power men carry in relationships.

In interracial marriages and relationships in general, the MALE is dominant. His opinions and persona will influence the woman. If he smokes weed, eventually she will too. I meet tons of women who's husband have no interest in activities. But the women will make an effort for a man's activities.

When the male is black and the female white, the man can continue being what he is, nerd, jock, thug, square etc. The black woman coming under a white man is a completely different dynamic. That black woman comes UNDER that white man, with all of the power implications. She is on her Ps and Qs, even if superficially she has some influence.

So yeah, no one should be a hoe, for health and financial reasons. And interracial marriage is problematic with respect to the power dynamics in this country. But both wear on black men and black women differently. Black people really have to get a better sense of probability, statistics and the power dynamics of various contexts. Otherwise, we'll just keep getting caught slipping.

And don't anyone send me a response about how much you love your Latina or Asian chick or how much double clutching you did in high school yet you still turned out ok. I'm talking about probabilities and statistics, not your singular data point.

This was a very telling show. I know lots of women like her and I keep them always at an arms length distance. My husband is Melanoid , I have 5 sons and I can't have that sort of energy in my circle. As eloquent and soft spoken she was ..her mindset is dangerous to the Melanoid man. Agreed 100%. Thank the Ancients for black women like you who understand. In real life, I get along almost perfectly with black women who are raising black sons they care about. Those black mothers GET it because they see their sons under attack disproportionately.

Melanoid people, especially black men are endangered because in every single functional society, the men are the first line of defense. With no men, it is open season on the women and children. I know it is VERY hard on black women, absolutely without a doubt. But if you had enough functional black men around you, that would afford some protection.

Bear with me, this is not quite the same scenario but at Wimbledon the other day, Serena Williams protested crowd noise and got roundly booed. That white crowd messed with her because they knew she was isolated. I guarantee that if 50 black men were in that audience as a block, it would have been as quiet as a church when Serena protested. Just one black man is enough to change the energy. Again, Wimbledon is not the oppression black women suffer, but you get the point. Sharapova has enough white men to defend her against damn near anything. Even the Asians will bus in people to watch one of their own compete at that level.

My mother said something awhile back that stuck with me and caused a lot of reflection.
She was with me and my brothers, walking through the mall. She said she felt stronger surrounded by her sons when she is out and about. She said she felt taller, more powerful. If anything went down, she knew we would step up to defend her. If you look at Arab, Indian and Muslim societies, messing with someone's female relative might cost you your life. Now, those societies have other problems with patriarchy and misogyny but the protection those women get from outsiders is real. Again, the male is the first line of the defense. That is why it has ALWAYS been open season on black males.

Right now, I have a functional relationship with white people, to add a corollary to Tariq's rule on only dealing with black people who have a similar agenda. Anything I do with a white person, personal and professional, I envision a beginning, middle and an end. With black people, my dealings are open ended. Because, hate you or love you, at the end it is just us.

I have a relative, black woman, married to a white man. One night at dinner with her white husband and his friends, for no reason, because no one asked her, she started forgiving white people for slavery. And her white husband's white coworkers mocked her right in front of him, specifically evoking black woman stereotypes about being on drugs and having a bunch of kids. I was horrified but she had told me she and her husband "joke" about black people all the time. So if that was how they got down, I was staying out of it. And her in-laws are absolutely racist and give her hell. We hang out a lot specifically because she needs a break from her white husband and his parents. It is a weird situation.

Wow that's a complete shame that she has reduced herself down to mocking her own people..for what? Temporary white privilege and protection.
I speak this bc I know 1st hand.I knew once I stepped out from under my temporary white protection all white privilege was null and void.
And you know what I'd have it no other way. I knew any child birthed from my body would only ever be seen as black so I have a duty to understand and accept how the works sees me,my children and my husband.
How some of these NBW and Sambos look at themselves is beyond me. I'd rather live knowing the truth and help my husband raise our boys to be proud smart young black men, then live a lie shittin on black folks and thinking I'm above black struggle bc I was brought up under temporary white privilege and protection.
But like Paul Mooney said "A nigga wake up call" can happen as soon as they(white supremacist) decide it's time. So these Sambos and NBW are just foolin themselves.
